Delta seals 6 churches, arrest 3 over sit-at-home order violation

Following flagrant disregard to the sit-at-home order by the Delta state Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, over the ravaging coronavirus pandemic, six churches were in the early hours of Thursday sealed in Ughelli South Local Government Area of the state, while three persons found along the Benin Asaba Expressway were arrested by security agents.

Confirming this to journalists in the area, the xouncil Chairman, Dr. Richard Kofi, said that the churches in Ekakpamere Community in Ughelli South Local Government were sealed over its disobedience to the sit- at -home order.
He added that “we were monitoring when we ran into the churches and we arrested the pastors of the churches and senr the worshippers away while the pastors were handed over to the police.
“Most of our people are very stubborn because they feel the coronavirus pandemic is not real and we will continue to monitor our area.”
While appealing to the people of Ughelli South to obey the sit -at- home order, the council chairman said: ” We were surprised to see oastors shouting themselves down, we used to respect pastors, but these ones we arrested disobeyed the order from the state government and continue their work when the order is for our own good.”
Meanwhile, the Delta state Police Command has confirmed the arrest of three persons along the Benin Asaba Expressway without cogent reasons for violating the sit- at -home order.
It states that the three suspects, two females and one male would be presecuted according to the law, warning that the police were ready to enforce the sit -at- home order.
Police Commissioner in the state, Hafiz Inuwah, who confirmed this to journalists in Asaba, said that the police is determined to enforce compliance, adding that those arrested will be charged in court.

Also, the Chairman of Ika North East Local Government Area of the state, Victor Ebonka has sealed off eateries and drinking joints that breached the state government directive on lockdown.
Ebonka, who spoke to journalists, confirmed that while monitoring compliance within the Boji-Boji Owa metropolis, frowned at the uncooperative attitude of shop owners and popular eateries for flouting the directive that non-essential shops be closed for business to allow for effective xontrol and monitoring against the COVID-19 pandemic.
