Delta polytechnic announce stiffer measures to curb cultism

The Delta state Polytechnic, Ozoro on Monday announced stiffer measures to stamp out cultism in the institution, reiterating that it is committed to the welfare of the students whose major concern should be their academics for their future well-being

While emphasizing that it would do everything possible to make cultism history at the institution, the institution authority expressed its unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property where absolute comportment to the rules and regulations of the institution cannot be jeopardized.
Public Relations Officer of the polytechnic, Boniface Oganyaran, reacting to the students protest on the ban and restriction of vehicles with tinted glasses, and commercial motorcyclist, said that the decision to impose the restriction and ban was for the safety, security and well-being of students and other members of the polytechnic community.
Oganyaran said at a media briefing that the management of the school is poised to stamp out all secret societies in the institution.
He said that “the management is ready for a turnaround and ensure that cultism has no place in the scheme of things. The presence of students’ vehicles and commercial motorcycles was causing serious problem in the system, resulting in several accidents and security breaches.

“For instance, a girlfriend to a student who owns a car was learning how to drive with the car, only for her to crash into another student who was on foot. Unfortunately, the affected student has been unable to resume in school since the incident.”
The decision to impose the restriction and ban by the governing council of the polytechnic, he added, was reached after due consultations and approval of the recommendations of the security committee by the council.
Oganyaran disclosed that 21 students have been rusticated from the institution for alleged being cultists and for their involvement in cultn related activities.
