Delta NUJ harps on credibility among media practitioners

The Delta State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has harped on credibility among media practitioners in the state to avoid the wrath of members of the public they educate and inform.
Mr. Nobert Chiazor, the State Council Chairman who gave this charge Monday at the formal opening ceremony of the indigenous newspapers/magazine chapel in Asaba, regretted that journalism as noble profession, hitherto had been hijacked by those who have no business with the profession, and are often seen at assignments with questionable characters that portend quackery and unprofessional.
While warning fake journalists to seek other profession, Mr. Chiazor said: “we need credibility and good public image so that people can see us as true and responsible journalists and not as touts” disclosing that the state council had embarked on intensive screening process to fish out quacks who had brought the profession to ridicule.
According to him: “we celebrate people, but we don’t, we celebrate ourselves, we should committed to our training and not running after brown envelops that will ridicule us as journalists” and urged members of the union especially practitioners to eschew blackmails that will earn them nothing, rather unethical basis.
Also, the State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Patrick Ukah in his remarks, disclosed that the state government in spite of the hash economic recession, was working out modalities where all accredited journalists would feel the air of comfort, rather than working under excruciating pans.
“The State Government under the able leadership of Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa is working modalities for the comfort of all accredited journalists to practice, rather than working under excruciating hash condition” he added.
Also speaking, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Charles Aniagwu commended journalists in the state for their fair reportage, adding that the state government would provide enabling relationship for them that will enhance their workings.
