Delta Govt denies lassa fever outbreak in the state

The Delta state government has disputed as untrue Lassa fever outbreak in the state even as it affirmed. that concerted efforts would continue to be made to improve healthcare delivery services to resident.

The state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Nicholas Azinge, who spoke to a group of journalists on Monday, disclosed that such efforts that will ensure for the benefit of all Deltans, required concerted efforts of all stakeholders in the health sector.

Dr. Azinge noted that no sacrifice would be too much to undertake in a bid to promoting healthcare, adding that with the decline in support from donor organizations in the area of finding in the health sector, and the inability of government to take over the support as a result of revenue decline, working together as stakeholders will find a lasting solution for the achievement of Universal Health Coverage.

He noted that co-operation and synergy from stakeholders would be the only key in possession of knowledge gained from research work on the state, especially in the recent research carried out through sound methodology for healthcare delivery.

Dr. Azinge further disclosed that results of the primary healthcare research conducted in the state 2016, indicated that the state has done quite well when compared to the other states in Nigeria in area of healthcare service delivery, adding that there were still real gaps that needed to be closed if health of the people must be improved as much as possible.

He listed some of the achievements in the healthcare delivery to include mobilization of Local Government Area authority, communities and relevant stakeholders, limitation of community health insurance scheme (CHIS), assessment and renovation of the primary healthcare facility at Okwagbe, others, adding: “we have not had fresh cases of Lassa fever outbreak, it is not true, it is all speculations.”
