Delta Governor Submits ₦200bn Supplementary Budget to Assembly

Delta State Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has presented a ₦200 billion Supplementary Appropriation Bill for the 2025 fiscal year to the Delta State House of Assembly for legislative consideration and approval.

The bill was conveyed in a letter addressed to the House and read during Tuesday’s plenary by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor.

Governor Oborevwori explained that although the 2026 budget estimates were presented to the House in November 2025, improvements in the State’s revenue profile and the need to sustain the effective delivery of the M.O.R.E/Renewed Hope Agenda made the supplementary budget necessary.

He noted that since the 2025 Budget runs until January 31, 2026, the Supplementary Appropriation Law is required to meet pressing financial obligations. These include the payment of accumulated pension arrears, increased state government equity contribution to strengthen the State Health Insurance Scheme, and rising debt servicing obligations, particularly on inherited foreign loans.

The governor also listed the payment of ten percent of internally generated revenue to local government councils, which exceeded initial projections, as well as the need to execute additional development projects across communities in the state.

The letter was received following a motion moved by the Leader of the House, Hon. Emeka Nwaobi, and seconded by the member representing Ika North East Constituency, Hon. Marilyn Okowa-Daramola.

The bill has been scheduled for second reading on Tuesday, January 21, 2026, for further legislative consideration.
