Delta APC Denies Attack on Rep, Dismisses Parallel Congress Claims
The All Progressives Congress in Delta State denied reports of an attack on the member representing Ethiope Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, on Saturday, describing the claim as media sensationalism.
The party also dismissed allegations of violence and parallel executives arising from its just-concluded local government congress in Ethiope West Local Government Area and other parts of the state.
In a statement signed by the state Publicity Secretary, Valentine Onojeghuo, and made available to journalists in Asaba, the party insisted there was no breach of peace anywhere in the state during the exercise.
Onojeghuo said the congress was conducted strictly in line with the party’s constitution and guidelines approved by its National Working Committee, describing it as peaceful, orderly and rancour-free.
“There were no parallel congresses anywhere in Delta State. Those peddling such reports are living in self-denial and seeking relevance through deliberate distortion of facts. The APC structure in Delta State is intact, cohesive and fully integrated,” he said.
He added that it was the first time since 2014 that the party successfully conducted congresses across the state in such a peaceful manner.
According to him, officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission monitored the process, underscoring its transparency and credibility.
The spokesman lauded Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for what he described as improved unity within the party, noting that there were no reports of violence in Ethiope Federal Constituency or elsewhere.
“The era of impunity, exclusion and divisive politics is over. What we have today is a broad-based and inclusive structure that accommodates both longstanding members and new entrants,” he added.
The party congratulated newly elected executives across the 25 local government areas and reaffirmed its commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
It urged members to close ranks and support the new executives, stressing that the Delta APC remains united and prepared for future political engagements.
