Defend your anti- corruption stance, Sen Baba Ahmed challenges Buhari

A presidential aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Datti Baba Ahmed, has challenged President Muhammadu Buhari to publicly come out to defend the anti-corruption crusade of his government.

According to Baba Ahmed, Buhari is not competent to say that his administration is not corrupt, neither can he exonerate himself from corruption.

Dr Baba Ahmed stated this at the PDP national secretariat on Friday during the submission of his letter of intention to contest the presidency on the platform of PDP.

The PDP presidential hopeful added that he was very close to Buhari but moved back from the President when he noticed that corruption has pervaded his government.

He, therefore called on Buhari to address the international community and Nigerians on the scorecard of his government in fighting corruption.

As someone who knows Buhari, inside out, Baba Ahmed said the President has questions to answer on his activities in office at the helm of affairs at the Petroleum Trust Fund (PTF), and how his presidential campaigns in 2003, 2007, 2011 and 2015 were funded.

He said, “ How can Buhari said he was fighting corruption when he collected corrupt money from peoples’ salaries from the APC controlled states to fund his election and say you are fighting corruption.

Two notoriously corrupt governors who bankrolled Buhari’s election were rewarded by Buhari with juicy ministerial appointments”.

Dr. Baba Ahmed, the Chancellor of Baze University, Abuja also said that, “Buhari’s anti-corruption war is deceitful, he is a liar, that man is corrupt”.

He therefore called on the PDP leadership to ensure a smooth, free, fair and credible primary in choosing its presidential candidate ahead of 2019, insisting that “if APC win in 2019, it is our fault. It takes only one right decision to be made by our party”.

Speaking further, Baba Ahmed said, “The APC in 2015 capitalised on our weakness and undemocratic process to come to power. APC is surviving 2015 to 2019 because we handed over. But if we get it right,we will not hear APC beyond 2019”.

He also told the PDP leadership that he deserved the party’s ticket because he has age on his side, saying that he is a careful planner and diligent executioner.

He promised that his government will prioritise security by accounting for every square kilometer and make every corners of the country safe, pay realistic living salary , implement mortgage arrangement for Nigerians, stabilise the naira to give confidence to investors , mitigate business risks and ensure a single digit interest rate on borrowing without infringing on banks interests.

Responding, the PDP National Chairman, Prince Uche Secundus, assured Baba Ahmed that the rebranded, repositioned PDP leadership will give every aspirant equal opportunities in their aspiration in a free, fair and credible contest.
