The family of former National Security Adviser (NSA), Colonel Sambo Dasuki (Rtd) has asked the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) to probe the misconduct of Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Malam Abubakar Malami (SAN), over the continued detention of Dasuki since 2015 despite several bails granted him by Courts.
In a petition signed by his wife, Hajia Bintu Sambo Dasuki, his son, Abubakar Atiku Dasuki and his nephew, Senator Umar Dahiru it explained that Dasuki’s ordeal started when Buhari’s government came on board in 2015 and operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) unlawfully invaded his house in Abuja and Sokoto, arrested him and carted away his vehicles and belonging.
In the petition dated July 23, 2018, to the NBA, the Dasukis accused the AGF of denigrating the court by encouraging the continue breach of Col. Dasuki fundamental human rights with his recent statement that the detainee will not be released even with five separate bails granted by different courts.
They urged the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) to investigate the unprofessional conduct of AGF and sanction him because the recent utterance violate the detainee rights and the rule of law.
The family also asked the NBA to intervene in the ordeal of Dasuki, speak out and take steps to compel the Federal Government to respect the rule of law and obey the order of the court.
That Malami’s unprofessional conduct is capable of causing anarchy in the country as he continues to promote and support Federal government disobedience to lawful order of courts.
The family, however, informed the NBA in the petition that rather than complying with the order of the court, the AGF as the Chief Law Officer of the Federation made unprofessional remarks that the order of the court as relates to Dasuki would not be obeyed by the Federal Government.
The family wondered whether a lawyer let alone a Senior Advocate of Nigeria ought to have engaged in such unprofessional and unguided utterances capable of causing anarchy.
The Dasukis also prayed NBA to ensure that Malami comply with the association code of ethics and to sanction him for breaching the code.
They maintained that Malami’s statement was prejudiced, unwarranted and unbecoming of a legal practitioner, adding that imposing sanctions against Malami will make other Nigerians to respect the rule of law.
The family copied the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Legal Practitioners Privileges Committee (LPPC), and Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee (LPDC).
They said that it is unbelievable for their son who served Nigeria meritoriously for 21 years as a courageous officer in the Nigerian Army; Managing Director, Nigeria Security Printing and Minting Company (NSPMC) and later as National Security Adviser to the immediate past administration to be unjustly detained.
