Dangote Refinery begins direct, free shipping of fuel to Nigerian retailers

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery will today commence direct and free shipping of fuel products to retailers across Nigeria, a move aimed at easing distribution bottlenecks and stabilising pump prices.

According to sources close to the refinery’s management, the new arrangement will allow licensed fuel marketers to receive supplies without bearing transportation costs, as the refinery will handle the logistics from its Lekki base to designated depots nationwide.

“This is part of our commitment to ensuring steady supply and affordability of fuel across the country,” the source said. “By taking on the cost of shipping, we expect this to ease pressure on retailers and ultimately benefit end consumers.”

Industry observers say the initiative could disrupt existing supply chains, reducing reliance on third-party transporters and curbing potential hoarding or price manipulation.

The Dangote Refinery, Africa’s largest single-train refinery, began supplying diesel and aviation fuel earlier this year and has gradually expanded into petrol distribution. With the new shipping arrangement, retailers in remote areas are expected to get quicker access to products.

Marketers are expected to start receiving allocations from today, with full-scale distribution projected to roll out within days.
