Customs, Security Agencies Strengthen Border Enforcement in Katsina
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Katsina Area Command, has reaffirmed its commitment to deeper inter-agency collaboration as key security agencies in the state pledged operational support to enhance border enforcement and combat trans-border crimes.
The Customs Area Controller (CAC), Comptroller Muhammad Saidu, disclosed this on Friday, February 13, 2026, while receiving senior officials of the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigerian Army and the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) during separate courtesy visits to the Command in Katsina.
He described the engagements as timely and strategic, stressing that effective border management depends on seamless intelligence sharing and coordinated action among security agencies. According to him, no single agency can successfully secure the borders in isolation.
“Our mandate cannot be executed in isolation. When security agencies work in synergy, intelligence becomes more effective, operations become more precise, and our borders become less vulnerable to criminal exploitation,” Saidu said.
He reiterated the Command’s commitment to professionalism, transparency and sustained collaboration in protecting Nigeria’s economic interests, adding that timely intelligence exchange is critical to curbing economic sabotage and trans-border crimes.
Similarly, the Commander of the 17 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Ishaya Ibrahim, reaffirmed the Army’s readiness to provide operational backing whenever required. He noted that synergy among security agencies remains vital in addressing emerging security challenges, particularly in border communities.
“The Nigerian Army will continue to collaborate with the Nigeria Customs Service to maintain peace, protect our territorial integrity and support lawful trade,” Ibrahim said.
Also speaking, the Comptroller of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Katsina Command, Tanko Dogara, pledged enhanced cooperation in migration control and border patrol operations. He emphasised the importance of coordinated patrols and effective monitoring of both official and unofficial routes to prevent criminal networks from exploiting border areas.
“Our partnership is crucial in safeguarding our borders and ensuring compliance with immigration and customs regulations,” Dogara stated.
