Customs made 28 seizures valued over N34m

Custom command in Calabar free trade zone and Akwa Ibom State Area has made 28 seizures valued at over N34million and made over N7.8billion out of a target of N8.7billion between January and October 2017.

Disclosing to news men in Calabar, the Comptroller Patience Nanbyen Burromvyat said, the seized items included used tyres, used vehicles, live animals and a total of 1, 521 (50Kg) bags of smuggled foreign parboiled rice.

She said, “Though, no life was lost, but some of our officers suffered various degrees of injuries in the course of discharging their legitimate duties.”
The Comptroller noted that the command has beefed up security along the jetties and borders considering the security threats of illegal importation of arms through the nations’ sea ports.

“The Command in conjunction with other security agencies and units are deploying high level intelligence to fortify the entire area in order to foil any attempts at arms smuggling and other trans-bother crimes”
