Cultists kill Benue University student in Makurdi
Vice Chancellor of the Benue state University, Makurdi, Prof. Moses Kembe has confirmed the killing of a political science student, Isaac Nyiyongo on Wednesday evening by suspected cultists.
Prof. Kembe, who briefed the press over the incident, said it was regrettable and saddening that the killing happened on campus which has achieved a high standard of peace, security and stability even in the smooth running of the academic calendar.

“Since my assumption as vice chancellor of this institution, the university management has been on the same page and unified in tackling the menace of cultism and other related vices prevalent among students the world over,” he said.
According to him, the menace of cultism and the attendant violent crimes has always been a nagging issue within student communities, even in the most advanced of universities the world over, saying the management has been diligent on the issue of cultism among students of the university.
He pointed out that the criminals who carried out the crime on campus last Wednesday took advantage of the strike action announced by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), staying that such isolated incidents will only serve to put the university’s management to increase efforts toward securing the campus.
The vice chancellor stated that the institution’s management has resolved that entry into the university campus henceforth will be restricted to the three main gates while visitors must present proper identification cards before being allowed into the campus.

Daily Times gathered that the victim was chased from outside the campus and hacked down opposite the college of health sciences complex with matched cuts and left him lifeless.
Although, the vice chancellor said two suspected masterminds of the killing have been arrested, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Benue state Police Command, Catherine Anene confirmed the incident, but said the police are still hunting for the killers.
