CSDA executes 268 projects in A’Ibom
The Akwa Ibom State Agency for Community and Social Development has executed over 268 projects worth N686,903,177.31 during the administration of Governor Udom Emmanuel in Akwa Ibom.
Addressing a press conference in Uyo weekend, the General Manager of the Agency, Mr. Ishmael J Akpan said between 2009 and 2014, 17 council areas in Akwa Ibom were captured for development projects within the intervention period.
Akpan maintained that the completed micro projects in various council areas include 13 Health Centres, 12 school blocks, 30 (24 sets each) Open Market Stalls, 39 Motorised boreholes, 24 Electricity Extension, 5 culverts/Drainage, 2VIP toilets, 45 Town Hall/Civic Centres and one viewing centre.
Mr Akpan further hinted that other 56 micro projects were on – going at various stages of completion while 41 were yet to commence.
He recalled that President Mohammedu Buhari initiated the community intervention Agency by reaching out to the World Bank to assist the vulnerable in the society particularly the internal displaced communities in the Northeast and very poor local council areas.
The General Manager explained that poor council areas in Akwa Ibom were selected while government paid for their 10 per cent contributory funds for the project thereby motivating the World Bank as a donor agency to sponsor the projects in different communities.
He said Akwa Ibom remained the highest benefiting state as government had earlier embraced the projects with more council area participation.
He listed community disagreements and unnecessary conflicts within the benefiting communities as major challenges facing the development intervention agency in Akwa Ibom.
