CRSHA constitutes c’mtte to investigate shooting of student

The Cross River State House of Assembly has mandated the committee on ICT, Information, Youths and Sports headed by Hon. Mathew Olory, to investigate the immediate and remote causes of the shooting of a student during the May 27, Children’s Day celebration at the Calabar stadium.

The decision of the House followed a motion of urgent public interest brought before it by the member representing Boki II State Constituency, Hon. Hillary Ekpang Bissong.

Constituting the committee, the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. John Gaul Lebo, charged them to invite all relevant persons including the Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development as well as the Permanent Secretary of the ministry.

Also invited are the heads of all security agencies in the state, Student Union Governments from the University of Calabar, the state University of Technology, and College of Health Calabar, representatives of youth groups, National Youth Service Corp members and other recognised youth associations.

The House also mandated the committee to visit the affected student in the hospital, ascertain the medical bills incurred and also interface with the parents of the victim and report back accordingly to it.

The House condemned in strong terms the crises which led to the shooting of the student by the police.
