Crisis looms in Adamawa PDP as Sen. Abbo petitions Secondus
The senator Ishaku Abbo representing Adamawa North Senatorial District has raised the alarm over an imminent crisis in the Adamawa state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over the process of contesting the forthcoming local government elections in the state.
The senator was miffed by the disqualification of 24 PDP leaders from contesting the coming council polls in state by the screening committee chaired by Kwanmoti Laori.
He expressed the displeasure of stakeholders in the party that Laori, who claims to be an ally of the state Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, disqualified the 24 aspirants which include the deputy state chairman of the party and other state and local government executive committee members on frivolous grounds and outright lies.
Sen. Abbo in a statement over the weekend said the action by the screeing committee was taken to circumvent the conduct of free and fair primary elections for fear that certain anointed candidates might lose.
He therefore, petitioned the national chairman of the PDP and the national working committee, the leadership at the state chapter and stakeholders in the party, to as a matter of urgency wade into the issue and allow for a free contest to avert a potential crisis.
The senator warned that if care is not taken and processes to the local government elections across Adamawa state not well managed, the ensuing crisis may consume the party in the state.
Sen. Abbo in the statement said “as one of the leaders of the party in Adamawa state and a major stakeholder, I want the PDP in Adamawa state to quickly reverse such devilish decisions so that the party will not be plunged into a crisis of no return. Can’t we manage success for once?
“Must we become dictators overnight even though we are beneficiaries of a free and fair election in Adamawa state in 2019 elections as allowed by President Mohammadu Buhari? Why do PDP want to blow the bridge that brought us to power?
“So the PDP in Adamawa state has not learnt any lesson from their 2015 dangerous primary election manipulations that sunk the party into the gutter?”
He charged leaders more especially, elected ones in positions of trust to live beyond personal interests arising from ego, religious or ethnic interests in the overall interests of the Nigerian people.
While believing that the appeal committee will do justice and reverse what he called the self –serving of the screening committee, he called on the party to immediately set up a committee to probe those he tagged enemies of the party and make the findings public.
“If we cannot learn from our 2015 intra -party wrangling, let us learn from the APC Adamawa state chapter’s pre 2019 elections intra -party cold war that later became a full blown political tsunami. Today, they are out of power.
“I have called the state party chairman and have written the national chairman so that the PDP in Adamawa state will be saved. For when (not if) it happens, don’t say I didn’t warn them,” he charged.
