Crisis looms at A’Ibom varsity over 16 months unpaid salaries

More than 279 staff of the Akwa Ibom State University may embark on indefinite strike following non-payment of their salaries by the management of the institution for over 16 months running.

Under the aegis of Concerned Akwa Ibom University Staff (CAIUS), the varsity workers said cumulative amount owed them for the period runs into several millions of naira.

The distressed staff blamed the Vice Chancellor of AKSU, Professor Eno Ibanga for their plight, saying the VC had disobeyed the state government directive for him to clear the backlog of their salaries.

The aggrieved workers, who pleaded anonymity for fear of being sacked, further accused the VC of promoting the culture of nepotism and bad administration.

They have vowed to take their protest to the governor’s office, the Nigerian University Commission and other relevant government agencies.
