The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), on Friday charged the Federal government to criminalize electoral violence.
The UN agency stated that having a legal framework that criminalizes violent acts will serve as a deterrent to violence perpetrated in the country, and enforce peace.
The international body strongly recommended the passing into law of the national peace policy in pursuant of peace in the country.
The Peace and Development Advisor, UNDP, Zebulon Takwa disclosed these in Abuja, at a media parley as part of preparations to mark the 70th international peace day celebration, on the September 21.
He said the UN’s involvement in Nigeria over the past decades have been in the area of supporting the establishment of a functional peace architecture.
