COVID-19: Oyo NYSC members develop semi-automated hand washing device

Three corps members serving in Oyo State have developed a semi-automated hand washing device with soap dispenser and underground draining system to aid in curtailing spread of coronavirus pandemic.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the trio – Victor Afolabi, Victor Ogunmoye and Olamide Adeyanju – developed the device with sponsorship by the Oyo State office of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

Speaking at the commissioning in Ibadan on Monday, Oyo State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs Grace Ogbuogebe, said the device was in response to NYSC Director -General’s challenge to corps members to be innovative in the fight against COVID-19.

“The Director-General, Brig.-Gen. Ibrahim Shuaibu, challenged corps members to use their talents to develop such device in the community. The corps members took the challenge, they started work just last week and today we can see the outcome.

“We know that one of the ways of preventing the spread of the virus is by washing hands with soap and sanitiser, the device is semi-automated because of the restriction of movements,” she said.

While urging corps members to always maintain personal hygiene, she commended them for the great work and the NYSC boss for his motivation.

Also speaking, the corps members thanked God for giving them wisdom to develop the device and the NYSC for the motivation and support.

“The device is well packaged in such a way that when you press the left pedal, it will bring out soap and you press the right pedal it will bring out water.

“We hope our aim of performing this social responsibility will be achieved,” said the corps members.
