COVID-19: Kano Imposes compulsory use of face masks

Kano state Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, on Sunday, directed security agencies to enforce the compulsory use of face masks by all Kano residents.
Governor Ganduje, who gave the directive during a press briefing on COVID-19, lamented that some residents have continued to violate the social distancing order, lamenting the laxity of security agents in the enforcement of compliance among residents.

He disclosed that serial meetings have been held with security chiefs in the state to fashion out how they could act tougher to ensure that people wear face masks and observe social distancing.
Meanwhile, the state Coordinator, Kano state Task Force on COVID-19, Tijjani Hussain, said 47 health workers were confirmed to have been infected with the disease.
He said that so far, the state has recorded 576 cases out of which 29 were new while 32 cases have already been discharged.
“Out of the total number we recorded here in Kano, we recorded three death on Saturday, making the total number of death recorded to be 21,” he said.

He further explained that “from Saturday to now we have collected 84 samples, out of which 29 cases were confirmed.”
The coordinator however, appealed to the general public to strictly adhere to medical experts’ advice, especially the use of face masks as well as observing social and physical distance.
