COVID-19: 2 Atletico players test positive

Two Atletico Madrid players have reportedly tested positive to the novel coronavirus disease ahead of the club’s UEFA Champions League clash against RB Leipzig.

News broke on sunday that two members of the traveling contigent to face Leipzig in Lisbon had tested positive to the virus, but there was no confirmation as to the identity of the two positive cases.

The club have now confrimed that two first team players, Argentine attacker,Angel Correa and Croatian full back, Sime Vrsaljko have tested positive to the virus.

The two players have been unnamed from the side to face the Bundesliga side. The club also confirmed that they are very much in stable condition and observing isolation protocols at home.

In order to ascertain that no fall-outs will emanate from the two confirmed cases, contact tracing was carried out. A fresh test was also carried out, all of which came back negative

“The first team and members of coaching staff underwent new tests yesterday [Sunday], the results of which have been negative in all of them,” the club stated.
