Court Orders El-Rufai to Pay Audu Maikori N40 million For Unlawful Arrest and Detention

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered the Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai to pay a sum of N40 million naira to Chocolate City boss Audu Maikori for his unlawful arrest and detention in February of this year.

Maikori was arrested twice in February and March at the command of the state governor on charges of incitement. The lawyer and record label executive had announced the killing of some students in Kaduna State by Fulani herdsmen. He later reacted the statement when according to him, he found out he was misinformed, with this he was arrested and charged by the state government.

However, In May, Audu Maikori sued El-Rufai to court for 10 billion naira for gross violation of his rights. The judge yesterday announced a ruling against the defendants and directed them to compensate Maikori.
This ruling however, has no interference with the on-going incitement case against Maikori.
