Council Boss urges police to fish-out armed robbers, security men

The Transition Committee chairman of Nsukka LGA Chief Ejike Asadu has called on the police to arrest all those involved in the armed robbery attack of last week at the Nsukka building material market where not less than N3m was carted away.

The TCC chairman while addressing traders shortly after he was conducted round the market to see things for himself expressed surprise but vowed that all those behind the robbery attack must be arrested and brought to book including market security men who were said to be on the run.

“It is unfortunate that security men that have the responsibility to secure the market conspired to rob the market put in their care.

“I have been informed that two of the security men on the run have been arrested others will also be arrested to explain their level of involvement in this incident,” he said.

The chairman announced that all the traders contesting for positions in the market proposed election have been disqualified and election cancelled till further notice.

“All those contesting for election in the market have been disqualified and election cancelled.

“The robbery incident may not be unconnected with the power tussle of who becomes the next chairman of the market, “he said.
Asadu expressed shock and disappointment in some shops converted to evil shrine by security men of the market with fetish materials and objects in it.

“Strong man of God would be immediately invited to destroy and remove the evil shrines and all these fetish objects in it.
“Nsukka LGA will set up committee to investigate and find out the remote and immediate cause of this incident,” he said.

He said the names of all those contesting election in the market would be forwarded to the DPO of Nsukka urban police station for interrogation.

Speaking with newsmen the caretaker chairman of the building material market, Mr. John Silala alleged that the chief security officer of the market and his men knew everything about the robbery as they were already on the run.

“If their hands are clean wouldn’t be on the run but should have raised alarm for response from the police and other security personnel.

“I commend Asadu for disqualifying all the contestants for the market election and cancellation of the proposed election adding that actions and utterances of some aspirants created crises and division in the market, “he said. Silala said about thirty five shops were broken and not less than three million were stolen by the robbers

“Government should please help us by fishing out those behind this robbery incident,”he said.

Daily Times gathered that the robbery incident may not be unconnected with the protracted crisis in the conduct of the leadership election in the market.
