Corruption: Instill discipline in varsities others –VC urges
Prof. Moses Nzaruwa, the immediate past Vice Chancellor, Adamawa State University, Mubi, has raised alarm over high level of corruption and insanity in nation’s higher institution of learning.
Nzaruwa, raise the alarm during a book launch, title “Afrikan Feminism,” authored by Francis Zirra a 23 year old Nigerian writer, held in Yola, Sunday.
He worried that the high level of corruption in most of the nation’s universities and secondary schools in the country was “alarming” adding for the need of urgent and collective respond.
“Discipline must be instill in our universities and secondary schools; because, there’s high level of corruption silently going on. And the society is condoning it that is why we are still backward.
“The era of gender inequality in the country has gone. Girl students should sit up and passed their examinations without putting their backs sleeping with some evils or paying money before they can get their certificate” Nzaruwa lamented.
The former Vice Chancellor worried that, a situation where parents paid for their children to pass for WAEC or buying courses for the children in the high institution of leanings even it was not suitable for the children was among the biggest problems affecting academic profession.
He clearly stated that the issue was not for government to act alone; society has a key role to play by standing up and support fight corruption and insanity in higher institution of learning across the country.
He noted that most of those evil doers in the universities and secondary schools the society knows them but they were still been protected by the same community.
He recalled that any effort or attempt made by the schools managements to address issues in respect of gender violation the same society would come up and condemned the effort.
“We used all our flat form to protect these evils, in fact we used ethnic, religion and unionism to make sure they got free.
“We are not helping our selves; because, we are relegating our selves backward, while other nations are moving forward, we are busy condoning evils,” Nzaruwa said.
On the book review, he said that the book was for every woman to get a copy and read it because it encourages women to wake up and stop relegating themselves.
In his remarks, Francis Zirra, the author, said that he wrote the book to give his contribution quota to the development of feminism in Nigeria and Africa in general.
