Coronavirus: I Thought I Was Going To Die

With all its devastating effects globally, anyone would be justified that he was going to die once diagnosed of being coronavirus positive.

So was the conclusion of the governor of Bauch State, Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed as he has shared with newsmen.

He said death stayed on his mind, the moment he began a new life in isolation.The fear was influenced by the fact that it had no vaccine as yet.

It was such a traumatic experience no one would wish it even for an enemy, “It is a very traumatic experience for one to know that you are infected by a disease for which there is no vaccine, presumably.

“I thought I was going to die, but certainly I had a very strong will to live.

“I was put on certain medication by my doctor that is antibiotics and malaria drugs”,“I never had any manifestation of the symptoms all the period that I was (in isolation), but I was under severe suspense that it might come any time”.

It should be recalled that tested to the virus March 24 shortly after he returned from Lagos.

In fact, the governor made the news that he contacted the virus following a meeting with son of former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, whom he met in an aircraft during a flight from Lagos to Abuja.

But as God would have it, he was discharged April 9.He said during the programme, that even after he was discharged, the fear of the virus was still on his mind.

Once it was suspected that he had contracted the virus, he went into selfquarantine.

Mukhtar Gidado, senior special assistant to the governor on media, who announced his quarantine added in a release:“This is to inform the general public that the result of the Six initial tests carried out by the Nigeria Centre for Diseases Control (NCDC) on His Excellency, Sen. Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, his family and aides that accompanied him to Lagos is out.

Of the Six initial tests carried out,one sample was confirmed positive of COVID -19,” the statement read.“The positive result happened to be that of His Excellency Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, the Executive Governor of Bauchi State”.

“At this point, it should be noted that the Governor is in self-isolation as his Doctors and officials from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) have taken full charge of his quarantine.

His Excellency, solicits for prayers from all and requests that all those who had contact with him or any one known to have the same medical condition to go for test immediately in order to avert further spread of the COVID -19 epidemic.
