A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Ebonyi state, Senator Julius Ucha, has accused its National Chairman, Chief John Oyegun led National Working Committee of the party of inflicting more injuries to the party.
He said that if urgent step are not taken, the party may suffer huge set back in 2019 election.
Senator Ucha who represented Ebonyi Central senatorial zone between 2003 to 2011, stated this at the weekend while briefing journalists in Abakaliki insisted that Oyegun apart from causing disaffection among party faithful in the different states of the country, also caused the different parallel congresses of the party across the states of the federation.
The 2015 APC governorship candidate in Ebonyi state and pioneer Speaker of the State House of Assembly, alleged that Oyegun’s actions exhibited during the congresses show that he was out not just to destroy the party, but to ensure that President Muhammadu Buhari did not succeed as he seeks re-election next year.
He said “John Oyegun is a malignant turmoil on APC. I say this because he has lost sense of honour and has allowed pride, prejudice, self knowledge and selfishness to overwhelm him including greed.
“If the only thing he can achieve for the party now is to destroy the institution because he feels he is no longer wanted, because of his myriad sins, he now thinks the best thing to do is to destroy the institution through which he has been blessed by God.
“He is a man for the purposes of the just concluded congresses, create congress committees. In some states, there were three congress committees from the national headquarters, in some there were two congress committees.
“You split one congress committee into two, the chairman or secretary will be conducting congress for one group, some other members of the committee will be conducting congress for another group in one political party. That is an aberration that is not democracy that also is hypocrisy.
“In a situation where the National Chairman of a political party has promoted two congresses or three congresses in one state and adopts the result of a particular congress without at least trying to harmonise to ensure that he finds out the truth to know what happened in the field signifies danger.
It shows that the man’s political wisdom has summersaulted; it shows the man is making it impossible for the party to have recognition for purposes of winning election”.
