The incumbent lawmaker representing Onitsha North 1 Constituency, in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Chugbo Enwezor, is in for a serious trouble as majority of Onitsha youths have strongly vowed to end his career as a legislator on Saturday’s Governorship and House of Assembly elections.
Despite last minute political intrigues, made by the Anambra State governor, Chief Willie Obiano, through the state Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Mrs. Azuka Enemuo, who is an indigene of the town to pacify the youths to vote for the APGA candidate (Hon. Enwezor), the youths, numbering about 600, trooped to Imeobi palace, Onitsha, on a scheduled meeting, while the Commissioner for Local Government allegedly rained abuses on the Onitsha Cabinet Chiefs (Ndiichie), accusing them of collecting money from the state government to support a particular candidate.
Mrs. Enemuo, after the meeting, refused to talk to the press, but sources told Daily Times that he was diplomatic in her choice of words but told the people to cast their votes for continuity during next Saturday’s House of Assembly election as a mark of solidarity to Governor Obiano.
All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairman, Onitsha North Local Government, Mr. Nwakibie Okagbue, told Daily Times that all entreaties by the commissioner to convince the youths failed as their (APGA) candidate performed woefully during his first term in office and the youths in Onitsha had vowed to cast their votes according to their conscience. He, however, boasted that APC candidate for the constituency, Mr. Ifeka Egbunike, was a preferred candidate.
