Community devt: World Bank commends Obiano over N150m counterpart funding

The World Bank has commended Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, for his prompt payment of Government cash counterpart contribution towards the ongoing Community Social Development programmes in the state.

The World Bank team disclosed that Governor Obiano had so far made a total contribution of N150 million for the progress of the exercise.

The team led by Prof. Folusho Okunmadewa, was received by Governor Obiano at the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia recently.

It is noteworthy to remember that the World Bank selected 12 poorest local governments in Anambra State to give them access to life, improve social and natural resources, infrastructure services in a sustainable manner.

Focal local government areas of the interventions are Awka North, Anambra East, Anambra west, Ayamelum, Orumba North, Dunukofia, Orumba South, Anaocha, Oyi, Ogbaru, Idemili North and Ihiala.

The programe which is ongoing in across the 36 states was introduced in Anambra State in August, 2019.

So far, Intervention is in 37 focal communities in the state and had completed 36 micro projects in those 37 focal projects.

Speaking on their visit, Mr. Okunmadewa noted that the team, Federal Projects Support Unit (FPSU) were on a supervisory mission to ascertain the level of work done by the Anambra State Community Social Development Agency (ANSDA), in those areas selected for the programme.

Okunmadewa commended Gov Obiano for his lofty policy of N20 million choose – your – Projects community Initiative, which he confirmed was in line with the vision of World Bank.

“So far, we are impressed by what the state’s Community Social Development has presented to us as done. With this, Anambra will be the fastest to complete their projects.

“I commend them for their prompt delivery, irrespective of the lateness in establishing the programme in Anambra,” Okumadewa added.

The team later had an extensive fact-finding meeting with the Board and staff members of Anambra Community Social Development Agency (ANCSDA).

In the meeting, the General Manager, Mr. Chudi Mojekwu, did a presentation on Accelerated Implementation report of ANCSDA “one year post effective”.

He commended Anambra CSDA for their great achievements in many communities of the state within one year post effectively.
