The Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Fintiri, has declared a 24-hour curfew on the Lamurde Local Government Area of the state following a renewed outbreak of communal violence.
According to The Punch, the directive was contained in a statement signed by Hussaini Hammangabdo, the Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, on Monday.
The curfew takes immediate effect as the government moves to contain the situation. Governor Fintiri has instructed security agencies to swiftly deploy personnel to the affected areas to restore law and order.
“The Adamawa State Government has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Lamurde Local Government Area with immediate effect following a renewed communal clash that broke out on Sunday evening,” the statement read.
The government urged residents of the area to remain calm and cooperate fully with security operatives as they work to prevent further escalation of the conflict.
The cause of the renewed clash, which reportedly began on Sunday evening, was not immediately detailed in the statement.
