Communal Clash: 3 reported dead, property worth millions of naira destroyed

A communal crisis has erupted in Obubra local government area of Cross River state between Iyamitet and Adun villages, leaving two dead and properties worth millions of naira destroyed.
The crisis, which was not the first between the sister communities started on when a Pastor of Uzana Ministry, a native of Iyamitet was allegedly killed with his wife while returning from church. Their corpse was later found at the boundary between the Adun community.
Angered by the death of the pastor and his wife, it was gathered that Iyamitet people mobilized and teamed up with a neighbouring village, Iyamoyong, and mounted a road block at St. Brendan junction Iyamoyong at about 5pm stopped and search everyone that used that federal high way hoping to find anyone from Adun.
A source hinted that the warriors were heavily armed with guns, machetes and other dangerous items while conducting the stop and search. To nip the situation on board, a source said that a paramount ruler whose name was not gotten at the time of filling this report invited the Police.
Interestingly, at the time of filling this report, men of the Nigerian Army had taken over control of the high way but they are reports of fighting inside the villages with one death reported in Adun.
The deceased Adun man was reportedly killed by a combined team of fighters from Iyamitet and Iyamoyong. Schools, markets and public places have all remained closed as everyone was panic. Iyamitet and Adun have a history of incessant fighting with the latest which has lasted over a year on communal lands and boundary.
When contacted on phone, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Irene Ugho, confirmed the story explaining that the police command had already dispatched anti-riot men to the area and promised to call back but did not call when this report was filled.
