CLO warns on danger of voting wrong candidate

The Civil Liberties Organization (CLO), Anambra State branch has admonished electorates on the danger of voting wrong candidate during the November 18th gubernatorial election.
They said the pitiable and pathetic condition of the state in the past was due to wrong choice of candidates and non- charlatan attitude of most eligible voters in the state.
“The resultant affect included but not limited to loss of one academic calendar, non-payment of salaries and pensions, lack of works on infrastructures,
destruction of government institutions and general exacerbation of poverty and unemployment index, state of insecurity and lawlessness” said the human right group in a statement.
CLO appeals to INEC to probe recent alleged collection of voters; cards by unscrupulous politicians “and their agents, recent death of some persons at Tarzan junction Nkpor, as well as recent campaign of calumny, hate speeches, name calling, rancour electioneering campaign embarked upon by some candidates, their political parties and their supporters.
Regrettably some campaigns have degenerated into lawlessness, warfare; anarchy by some self seeking individuals. INEC, Security agents and stakeholders should take urgent steps to rescue the situation.”
The statements were signed by the chairman, Comrade Vincent Ezekwueme and the publicity secretary Comrade, Nicholas Amoke.
Continuing, CLO said “we wish to appeal to electorate to think beyond their parochial and pecuniary interest and vote for the best candidate that will be selfless, prudent, accountable, transparent and fear of God”.
They also appealed to INEC to provide level playing ground for all the candidates, and device means to dissuade party agents from staying near the voting cubicles, because most of them will share money to electorate and monitor them to ensure that they voted for their candidates.
INEC, CLO said, should ensure partial movement within the cities on the election day to enable voters cast their votes as those living in various new layouts such as 3-3, Obosi, Nkpor, Oba, Ogidi, Nkwelle, Mgbakwu, Nkwelle and other places cannot vote because of lack of polling booths and electoral wards in those areas if there is no limited movements.
CLO said “Those calling for boycott should have a rethink, it will be very detrimental, disastrous, detestable and despicable if the election is boycotted.
Stake holders, churches, civil society organizations, market leaders, labour unions, students unions should mobilize, sensitize, educate and enlighten Anambrarians that it is only through votes that they can enthrone good and accountable governance.
