Church Of Nigeria Urges Nigerians To Support Buhari

Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion, Kwara Diocese has urged Nigerians irrespective of tribe, religion and political leanings to rise in unison, honesty and integrity in support of the president-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd)’s administration.

The church also considered the recent general elections in the country as another golden opportunity for Nigeria to chart another course for greatness.

In a communique issued at the end of its 14 session Synod and signed by the Diocesan Bishop of Kwara state, Rt Rev. Olusegun Adeyemi, the church enjoined Gen Buhari to “rule with integrity, stamp out corruption, deal with insecurity and restore the godly values for which our founding fathers fought and paid the supreme price.”

Communiqué reads: “The synod notes with immense gratitude to God the peaceful conduct of Nigeria’s 2015 general elections and congratulates the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headed by Prof Attahiru Jega, the president-elect and outgoing President Goodluck Jonathan for their commitment to the unity and corporate existence of this country.

“The synod notes that our root which also qualifies as our ‘Bethel’ as a nation is as contained in the former and our old and present National Anthems, both of which enjoin unity regardless of tribes and tongues and command our zeal and commitment as compatriots as against selfishness, nepotism and crass corruption which have now taken over and are destroying us as a nation.”

The synod also congratulated Kwara state Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed on his re-election and urged him to “demonstrate sincerely the name ‘state of harmony’ by ensuring equal opportunities to everyone in the state and rule with the fear of God.

“The synod notes the recent conflicts between Fulani herdsmen and farmers in some parts of the state and calls on the government at all levels to create a grazing area specifically suitable for the herdsmen and their flocks to forestall future recurrence.”
