Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Holds 15th Matriculation

Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) Uli and Igbariam campuses has held its 15th Matriculation ceremony for Regular Undergraduate and Post-Graduate Programme on 2014/2015 academic session in a grand style.

Speaking at the epoch-making event, the Vice-Chancellor of COOU, Prof. Fidelis U. Okafor, charged the matriculating students to be of good conduct and eschew any act capable of causing their rustication after so many years they might have laboured to gain admission into the university.

Prof. Okafor, while urging the students to study very hard and shun all forms of distractions, implored the freshmen to “Bear in mind that the University’s academic regulations does not allow students to stay 50 per cent over and above their expected year of graduation. You must exercise self-control and self-discipline”

“Cultism will ruin your life, your career, and your families because it is an evil against the University and the society at large. A powerful and dynamic security network exists in the university to monitor and apprehend cult members. So say no to cultism today” he warned, stressing that penalty for cultism was expulsion and punishment in accordance to the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

While commending Anambra State Government for committing huge sums of money for capital development of COOU, Prof. Okafor, posited that “We are establishing linkage programmes with overseas Universities in Africa, Europe and United States whereby our students will be opportune to spend a semester or so in these foreign Universities in a form of exchange programme”

Speaking in an interview, one of the matriculated students and the Anambra State Former Commissioner for Lands, Survey and Planning, Hon. Okoli Akirika, expressed happiness for the success of their admission processes and prayed God to shower their efforts with huge success.

When asked why he returned to university for a post-graduate programme after some years of active politics, Barr. Akirika averred that he aspires to the zenith, because according to him, politics is a vocation and not a profession.

Taking of matriculation oath by the matriculants formed the highpoint of the occasion.
