Chisco Transport Begins Yutong, Sinotruk Assembly in Lagos

Foremost road transport and logistics operator, Chisco Transport Limited, has commenced the local assembly of Yutong luxury buses and Sinotruk trucks in Lagos, marking a major step toward fleet renewal and the launch of its new Drive-To-Own transport franchise.

The auto assembly facility, located in Iponri, Surulere, is an accredited plant for Yutong and Sinotruk vehicles and is also equipped to assemble other leading Chinese commercial vehicle brands.

The initiative is aimed at ensuring sustainable fleet expansion, improving operational efficiency, and supporting the smooth rollout of the new franchise model.

Under the Drive-To-Own scheme, carefully screened and professionally trained captains will operate the buses and trucks under agreed terms, creating opportunities for employment and entrepreneurship within the transport value chain.

An initial fleet of 80 luxury buses and 40 trucks has been rolled out to begin operations, serving key corridors between the South-East and the North, as well as providing premium passenger services on the Lagos–Accra West Coast route.

Speaking at the rollout and key presentation ceremony held in Lagos, Chairman of the Chisco Group, Dr. Chidi Anyaegbu, said the company remains committed to investments that stimulate economic growth, create jobs and improve the quality of life of Nigerians. Reflecting on his early years in the sector, he noted that transportation, though not initially seen as highly profitable, offered immense potential for employment generation.

According to him, the vision to strengthen road transportation for passengers, mail, parcels and cargo, while creating jobs through impactful investments, led to the introduction of the Drive-To-Own initiative.

Also addressing stakeholders, the Managing Director of Chisco Transport, Mr Obinna Anyaegbu, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to meeting the evolving demands of road transport and logistics.

A team of Yutong technicians, led by Mr Damian Lee, pledged round-the-clock after-sales support for the luxury buses, including 24-hour technical assistance, faster spare parts supply and maintenance training to ensure maximum uptime of the fleet.

Beneficiaries of the Drive-To-Own scheme said they had undergone adequate training and were prepared to deliver quality service while prioritising passenger safety and comfort.

The 53-seater Yutong air-conditioned luxury buses are equipped with modern amenities such as ergonomically upholstered seats, phone charging points and onboard entertainment systems. The Sinotruk trucks feature state-of-the-art facilities, including sleeping berths for long-haul operations.

Vehicles assembled at the Chisco auto assembly plant are also expected to serve other transporters and logistics companies, further strengthening local capacity in Nigeria’s commercial vehicle and transport sector.
