China reveal who’s promoting Hong Kong protest

China has accused American lawmakers of having exerting more pressure to Hong Kong unrest after US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi promised to help pro-democracy protesters fight for freedom.

Beijing’s representative for foreign affairs in Hong Kong today lashed out at US lawmakers, blasting them for meddling in China’s internal affairs by ‘supporting so-called freedom and justice’.

China has repeatedly blamed the ongoing anti-government demonstrations on the United States, claiming Washington’s officials are ‘the black hand’ behind the chaos.

Foreign ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said at a press briefing Thursday that the US should “stop supporting violent radical forces and Hong Kong independence separatists, and stop adding fuel to the fire to the words and deeds that damage the prosperity and stability of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.”

Demonstrators have matched in their hundreds to the US Consulate calling for the right to vote for their own leader, among other demands and to urge President Donald Trump to help ‘liberate’ Hong Kong from China.

Pelosi yesterday met with a group of activists from the Chinese-ruled city in Washington, sending a signal to Beijing that the US Congress backs the ongoing unrest which has rocked the financial hub for more than 100 days.

Demonstrators who met with Pelosi in the US capital yesterday included 22-year-old Joshua Wong who has been jailed multiple times for his leading role in pro-democracy movements; and pop singer Denise Ho whose music is banned in mainland China because of her activism both personalities are high-profile activists in the city’s ‘leaderless’ protests.

Ho, urged the US Congress to take action against China over its crackdown on the protests in the city.

She told a congressional commission on Tuesday, ‘this is not a plea for so-called foreign interference. This is a plea for democracy, this is a plea for universal human rights. This is a plea for the freedom to choose,”

China says it is committed to the Hong Kong formula, denies meddling and says the city is an internal Chinese issue it has accused foreign powers, particularly the United States and Britain, of fueling the conflict and told them to stop interfering in its national affairs.
