Chimamanda honoured by Georgetown university as bestselling author delivers Commencement Speech

Daily Times has been informed that Georgetown University, Washington DC is set to welcome Nigerian born bestselling author and renowned speaker Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie to speak at the 2019 commencement ceremony for Georgetown College.
The College hosts majority of the university’s undergraduates. The ceremony will take place on the 18th of May.
According to a statement to that effect, sent to Daily Times on Friday, Chimamanda will also receive an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters Degree from Georgetown University.
Established in 1789, Georgetown is America’s oldest Catholic and Jesuit University and is recognized as one of the world’s leading academic and research institutions.
The university’s commencement celebrations, which will last from the 16th to the 19th of May, include individual graduation ceremonies for each of the university’s undergraduate and professional schools, with each featuring an address from a distinguished leader.
Other 2019 speakers include world-famous chef and humanitarian, José Andrés; Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations, HE Ambassador Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al Thaniand and Former US Secretary of State, Madeleine K. Albright.
“We are honoured to welcome an extraordinary group of individuals to campus to share their reflections with our graduating students this May,” said Georgetown President John J. DeGioia, of the event.
”These speakers include distinguished leaders in the fields of medicine, literature, politics, law, public service and business.
As our students embark on their own paths, seeking to make an impact on our world, we are deeply grateful for the inspiration and powerful example provided by these remarkable individuals,” he added.
Daily Times would recall that the award by Georgetown University will be one, of many honorary degrees received by Chimamanda Adichie from major universities around the world, especially in the United States including, Eastern Connecticut State University, Johns Hopkins University, Duke University, Amherst College and more.
