Child Molestation: ISDEVCOM organizes workshop for police personnel

In a bid to enhance capacity of officers of the Nigerian Police Force especially in handling and preventing cases of child Molestation, the Institute of Strategic and Development Communication at the Nasarawa State University, Keffi has organized a two day workshop in that regard.

The workshop which held at the FCID headquarters in Abuja is targeted at personnel of the force drawn from the gender unit (Child Protection) of the Force Criminal Investigation Department of the Force.

In his remarks, the Executive Director of the Institute, Prof Emmanuel Dandaura said the training became paramount to equip staff of the unit with the necessary knowledge to enable them work better.

“The FCID is a very important unit of the Nigerian police force which is why 25 officers of he force have been selected for this training.

“Nasarawa State University believes that adequate knowledge is required to solve the problem which is why we have reposed confidence in the police force as a stakeholder in achieving this dear.

“During the Covid-19 lockdown, there were reports of high cases of child Molestation and it generated interest from researchers and we have developed some interventions of which this training is also part of,” he said.

Prof. Dandaura urged the participants to actively participate in the workshop, while reaffirming the committment of the Institute in pursuing the implementations of the resolutions from the workshop.

In his response the representative of the Inspector General of Police , Deputy Commissioner of in charge of Administration, DCP, Dayo Ariyo underscored the relevance of the workshop to the development of the Force and why it is important to protect children.

“Children are the future and if we allow them to be molested, it will surely affect their psyche. Thus, we commend the Institute for this Initiative to train our personnel in the child protection unit so they will be equipping with the necessary knowledge that will enahnce their work,”

Also speaking, the coordinator of the Programme, Odigie-Okpataku Ehizofa stated that the essence of the workshop is to increase awareness and knowledge on how to prevent and handle cases of child molestation.

She urged participants to make the session interactive so as to boost knowledge sharing during the two day workshop.
