Chiefs, Elders, Youths back journalists for Assembly race in Bayelsa

In what appears to be a new dimension to the forthcoming State Assembly election in Bayelsa, a Pan-Nembe Youth Organization, Save Nembe Group (SNG), has thrown its weight behind the current Vice-chairman of the Bayelsa state council of Nigerian Union of Journalists,(NUJ) Comrade Samuel Numonengi.
The group, after a joint council meeting held in Yenagoa passed a vote of no confidence on the incumbent lawmaker, Ebi Ben-Ololo, saying he has not been able to meet the aspirations of the people from the area in the past four years.
The group also warned the incumbent lawmaker to drop his re-election bid into the seat or will be disgraced at the poll.
The coordinator of the group, Comrade Edward Ayibaemi, further alleged that with all the funds that accrued to the area in the past four years, Ben-Ololo has failed to carry out a single constituency project.
The group, said the decision was unanimously adopted by all members, because it has the backing of the Elders, Chiefs, women and the youths of the constituency.

According to Ayibaemi, the people have resolved to vote Numonengi because of how he has used his position as a journalist to take issues affecting Nembe people, especially youths to the front burner.
They also called on the leadership and card carrying members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) that the ticket to contest the constituency 1 come 2019, should be protected and giving Numonengi because he is the hope of the youths in Nembe.
Comrade Numonengi, who is a political editor and a presenter, is also the government House correspondent of the Nigerian Television Authority, (NTA) Yenagoa.
