Chidozie Maduka’s Unframed Captivates London Audiences!
Unframed, a fine art photography solo exhibition by Nigerian artist Chidozie Maduka, which ran from July 12th to 19th, 2024. Despite the artist’s physical absence, his powerful visual storytelling and thoughtful virtual participation made Unframed one of the most engaging exhibitions of the summer.
The exhibition, Maduka’s first solo presentation in the United Kingdom, featured a series of striking photographic works exploring themes of identity, displacement, and liberation from societal constructs. With Unframed, Maduka invites viewers to consider the limitations we inherit and the narratives we choose to reshape.

Although participating remotely, Maduka remained deeply involved in the exhibition’s public and private programming. Through live-streamed discussions, virtual walkthroughs, and digital artist talks, he offered meaningful insights into his practice. Rele Gallery’s curatorial team ensured his work and voice were authentically represented, facilitating vibrant engagement with collectors, curators, and critics.

“Unframed is a testament to the artist’s ability to transcend physical space,” said Adenrele Sonariwo, Founder of Rele Gallery. “Chidozie’s absence did not diminish the power of his work—it magnified it. The audience connected immediately and deeply with the imagery, and the response has been extraordinary.”
The show attracted an enthusiastic turnout, with multiple works entering significant private collections. Visitors praised Maduka’s technical mastery and the emotional weight carried by each image—contemplative, cinematic, and unflinching in its honesty.
Unframed underscores Chidozie Maduka’s growing influence in the realm of fine art photography and marks a defining moment in his artistic journey. It also reinforces Rele Gallery’s mission to spotlight boundary-pushing contemporary African artists on the global stage.
