A dual-qualified lawyer in Nigeria and New York, Azodoh has distinguished herself by steering over $5 billion in cross-border transactions and reshaping how capital flows into and across emerging markets.
Her career reflects a rare combination of legal rigor, strategic foresight, and a deep commitment to innovation-driven growth, especially in underserved and high-potential regions.
Educational Foundation and Early Legal Career in Nigeria
Azodoh’s journey began in Nigeria, where she earned her LL.B. with First Class Honours from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, graduating in the top 2% of her class. She went on to complete her B.L. at the Nigerian Law School before beginning her career at ALN | Aluko & Oyebode, Nigeria’s largest commercial law firm.
At Aluko & Oyebode, she quickly became a standout, advising on transformative transactions like the $235 million merger between Access Bank Plc and Diamond Bank Plc the largest banking consolidation in Africa by customer base. She also played a significant role in capital markets deals including MTN Nigeria’s ₦200 billion bond issuance.
Her transactional experience cut across sectors like telecommunications, banking, pensions, and insurance, where she advised global players including Petrobras, Lafarge, Guaranty Trust Bank, and Willis Towers Watson on multibillion-dollar deals. These formative years not only deepened her expertise in M&A and capital markets but also grounded her in the regulatory and commercial realities of African economies.
Scaling Global Heights in the U.S. Venture Capital Space
Azodoh’s ambition to operate at the intersection of global capital and African innovation led her to Harvard Law School, where she earned an LL.M. focusing on mergers and acquisitions, antitrust, ESG, and capital markets. At Harvard, she served as the LLM Representative of the Harvard African Law Association, building networks that now support her cross-border practice. She is currently augmenting her legal background with an MBA in Finance, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation.
Now based in Boston and called to the New York Bar, she serves as an Associate in the Venture Capital and Emerging Growth Companies practice at an Am Law 100 firm. There, she advises high-growth startups and technology companies on venture financings, corporate structuring, and governance. Her transactional footprint in the U.S. underscore her ability to navigate transactions in global markets and deliver investor-ready legal solutions.
Why Her Work in Venture Financing Matters
Venture capital is more than just a funding mechanism, it’s a catalyst for scalable innovation, especially in regions like Africa where traditional financing is limited. Azodoh understands this deeply. Her work ensures that startups not only receive the capital they need, but that they are structurally and legally positioned for sustainable growth and future funding.
Her cross-border experience makes her particularly effective at helping African startups attract global investment. With deep knowledge of both African regulatory environments and U.S. capital markets, she’s uniquely positioned to guide deals that are legally sound, commercially strategic, and globally viable.
Beyond transactions, Azodoh is a thought leader, having authored works for Thomson Reuters’ Practical Law series and articles on intellectual property as loan collateral, a forward-thinking concept in venture financing. She’s also contributed to scholarship on arbitration and legal reform in Nigeria, signaling her commitment to developing the legal infrastructure of emerging economies.
A Vision for the Future
Azodoh’s ongoing mission is clear: to use law as a tool for unlocking capital, fostering innovation, and bridging the global financing gap for emerging markets. Whether she’s structuring a Series A in Boston or navigating capital market reforms in Lagos, her work represents the future of integrated, cross-border legal practice in venture financing.
