Channels Tv Lensman dies 9 days after involvement in auto crash, as Bauchi govt, NUJ mourn
Barely nine days after involving in an auto crash alongside 12 other journalists, Mr. Kani Ben, Camera man working for Channels television has died, while receiving medical care at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) in Bauchi.
A press release made available to newsmen by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Bauchi state council, stated that Kani died in the early hours of Sunday.
Signed by the secretary of council, Isah Garba Gadau, the statement also announced the postponement of its planned congress meeting scheduled for Monday 16th February, 2026.
The Union while awaiting the burial arrangements, expressed sympathy to Ben’s family, NUJ, and associates, praying for the repose of his soul.
Similarly, Bauchi state governor, senator Bala Mohammed has sympathised with Ben’s family, Channels TV, and the media community over the incident.
The governor’s condolence message through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Comrade Mukhtar Gidado Gidado, described Ben’s death as “painful and heartbreaking”, commending his dedication and courage to journalism work.
He said, “despite efforts by medical personnel to save his life, he sadly passed away in the early hours of today at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University ( ATBU ) Teaching Hospital , Bauchi.”
The deceased was among journalists covering the commissioning and handing over of projects executed by the North-East Development Commission alongside the Minister of State for Regional Development, Uba Maigari, when the accident occurred.
