CDS tasks STF to consolidate on success, wind up operation

The Chief of Defence Staff, Maj-Gen. Abayomi Olonishakin, has tasked members of the Special Task Force (STF), to consolidate on the successes gained over insurgents in the troubled parts of the country and to develop new strategies aimed at winding up its operation.

Speaking at the STF Headquarters in Jos, the Plateau state capital, Olonishakin said that the STF is a temporal operation that is meant to restore peace in the parts of the country that has been bedeviled by crisis.

He said that the operation is taking too long, thereby urge officers to think outside the box, by coming up with measures that will hitherto bring a lasting solution to peace.

While addressing troops, the Army Chief said, “the STF has the mandate to restore and to maintain peace in troubled areas; but I think our operation is taking too long to wind up, I want you (Officers) to think outside the box in bring a lasting solution to the crisis.

“Don’t take sides with any group, be neutral and maintain the rules of engagement”.

When asked if the Ministry Of Defence is lacking funds to continue with the sustenance of the STF and the fight against insurgents, the Army General said that lack of funds is not the issue as the welfare of its personnel is well taking care of.

He said the only challenge is lack of military equipment which is currently being address.
