CBN partners Junior Achievement Nigeria on Global Money Week

As part of the celebration of Global Money Week 2017, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) will partner with Junior Achievement Nigeria (JAN) to impart financial literacy to over 80,000 students nationawide.

The programme will be anchored on JAN’s cutting-edge curriculum, based on the theme of this year’s Global Money Week’s “Learn. Save. Earn’’, and will hold from March 27 to April 2.
No fewer than 800 schools from the 36 states of the federation will be taught the rudiments of financial literacy.

The CBN initiative is managed by the Bankers Committee which works with JAN to match banks to schools.
“This is the fourth year we are implementing Financial Literacy Day in partnership with Junior Achievement Nigeria.

“And we have seen the programme improve and expand each year,’’ said Emeka Emuwa, CEO Union Bank and Chairman of the CBN Bankers Committee Financial Literacy and Public Enlightenment Sub- Committee.

“Our ultimate goal is to ensure that every Nigerian student understands financial literacy and is able to make sound financial decisions that will lead to a productive and successful life.’’
“We are grateful for the opportunity to develop the curriculum and implement this initiative with the CBN Bankers Committee every year,’’ said Mrs Simi Nwogugu, Executive Director of Junior Achievement Nigeria.

“The goal of Global Money Week is to teach children and youth about money, saving, creating livelihoods, gaining employment and becoming an entrepreneur through interactive and fun activities.

“This aligns with the three pillars upon which Junior Achievement’s programmes are built: Financial Literacy, Work Readiness and Entrepreneurship.’’

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Junior Achievement Nigeria (JAN) is part of Junior Achievement Worldwide (JAWW), the world’s largest and fastest-growing non-profit economic education organisation with a 121-country network.

Since inception in 1999, JAN has reached over 670,000 students in over 900 schools in 29 locations across the country with the support of 2,000 volunteers.

As part of a global network, JAN is able to leverage resources and expertise to deliver localised cutting-edge experiential programmes.
The programmes are built on JAWW’s three pillars of Work Readiness, Entrepreneurship and Financial Literacy to in- and out-of-school youths of ages five to 27 free of charge.
