Cazorla the new ‘king of assists’

When Mesut Ozil arrived at Arsenal for a reported fee of £42.4 million, he was labelled as the ‘King of Assists’.

Since then his stock has fallen considerably, but luckily, the Gunners have found someone to sit on his thrown called Santi Cazorla.

The Spaniard is one of the most consistent players in the Arsenal squad and has thoroughly impressed since joining from Malaga.

According to the stats, he is also the most creative player in the Premier League.

Since arriving in the summer of 2013, Cazorla has assisted more goals (27) than any other player in the Premier League. His latest came against Newcastle United on Saturday, allowing Olivier Giroud to score the decisive goal in a 2-1 win.

Unlike Ozil, who struggled to impress in his debut season for the Gunners, Cazorla was named player of the season by Arsenal fans. That season he scored 12 goals and assisted 13 in all competitions.

This season he has scored eight and assisted ten and many fans have called on Arsene Wenger to bench Ozil in favour of playing the 30-year-old in the No.10 role.

However, the diminutive playmaker has proved just as useful in a deeper midfield role and has also impressed whilst playing out wide.

While they may be team-mates, Cazorla is certainly making Ozil’s job of becoming the main man at Arsenal harder.
