Cash crunch hits commercial sex workers

vict

It would appear that the economic recession in the country has bitten hard on the commercial sex business, as most of the “practitioners can no longer afford to pay for their rooms in brothels, and are now forced to do their runs just about anywhere.

Investigation by our crime desk revealed that many of them have now found solace at the Ejigbo Local Council Development secretariat, along Ikotun/Isolo road in Ejigbo, where they are engaged in their business.

Our findings also revealed that the booming business has been infiltrated by new faces, including married and struggling single girls as well as students who are competing with professional sex workers for survival.

A new twist in the hustle is that the business is conducted in collaboration with some council workers, who, for a token fee, give the ladies access to the secretariat to use any corner for short time sex. However, this was neither confirmed nor denied by the Council management.

It was learnt that some customers must watch their pockets otherwise they will lose money and other valuables in their pockets during the act. Apart from the secretariat, tanker drivers, who usually park their trucks at the NNPC depot in the area, also convert their trucks to serve as makeshift accommodation for the business

One of the patrons, who gave his name only as Ben, told our correspondent that the business has been going on low key for some years before it started booming recently.
It first started from the NNPC junction before it eventually spread to the local government secretariat not far from here; and it appeared both the sex workers and their clients are satisfied and happy over the standard of the services rendered,” Ben said.

The tanker drivers and their assistants, it was gathered, actually constitute big market for sex workers as hundreds of tankers come to the NNPC depot daily, and in most cases, they stay there over the night.

Ben also explained that although there were hotels within the axis, but the cost of paying for chalets is on the high side; he added that so many patrons resort to road side sex at reduced fees, and say it is more fun, anyway. The average fee, it was revealed, ranges between N300 and N500, “Unless the client bargains upwards for ‘take-away’.

The unique thing about this place is that you can see a fine and big woman that you may not have the courage to talk to elsewhere, but you can have her here with just N500,” Ben explained.

When our correspondent attempted to speak to some of the workers, they declined, saying “Business first; idle talk is not what we came there to do. One of the ladies who had a pretty successful night later hinted that the area is booming because of its low cost incentive.

“I was paying N30,000 every month to a hotel owner for half of a room space, but I could not cope with the rent due to low patronage. But I make more money here because I spend less on space and there are reasonable customers out here,” she confided.

Efforts made to speak with the council management were not successful, as the Public Relation Officer was said not to be available to respond.
