Capacity building, training top agenda as FCT, Federal Fire Services strengthen ties

The Federal Fire Service (FFS) and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Fire Service, have moved to deepen collaboration with a renewed focus on training, capacity building, and inter-agency support.

During a courtesy visit to the Controller General of the Federal Fire Service, Samuel Adeyemi Olumode, in Abuja, both agencies agreed that strengthening institutional ties is critical to boosting fire safety and emergency response in the nation’s capital.

Speaking during the visit, the Director of the FCT Fire Service, Engr. Zaccheaus Adebayo, reaffirmed its readiness to work closely with the federal body.

The discussions centered on enhancing skill development for state officers, improving access to modern infrastructure, and creating stronger frameworks for knowledge exchange.

The Federal Fire Service, in turn, expressed commitment to providing interventions that will further enhance the operational capacity of the FCT Fire Service.

Plans were also unveiled for far-reaching reforms, including the review of the Service’s governing Act by December 2025 and the expansion of its mandate to cover rescue operations and emergency management services nationwide.

He also disclosed that the Service will expand its mandate beyond firefighting to include broader rescue operations and emergency management services across the nation.

The Controller General commended the FCT Fire Service for the visit, stressing that stronger collaboration is key to advancing fire safety and emergency response in Nigeria.

He assured that his office will continue to welcome joint initiatives aimed at safeguarding lives and property.
