‘We cannot afford any more crisis’-PDP National chairman Aspirant, Chief Bode George cries

A frontline aspirants to the office of the National Chairman of the PDP and former Deputy National Chairman of the party, Chief Olabode George, has disclosed that he remains an unrepentant member of the PDP irrespective of the outcome of the December 9 National convention.
George, who was at the PDP National Secretariat to submit his chairmanship nomination form, said that he is not part of the team planning to hold a parallel convention even as he advised the National Caretaker Committee to ensure a free, transparent and credible convention.
He said: “I want to appeal that we have to be extremely careful in managing the convention. We cannot afford any more crisis,” he warned.
He stressed that he has made up his mind to remain in PDP as long as the party exists, describing himself as “an irredentist PDP man”.
The Chairmanship hopeful promised to correct the ills in the party such as impunity and lack of respect for the party’s constitution, if he emerges victorious at the convention.
Meanwhile, a Deputy National Chairmanship aspirant, Hajia Inna Ciroma, advised other aspirants and their supporters to eschew discord and rancour during the convention.
Mrs. Ciroma called for greater unity among PDP members and aspirants to ensure a post-convention united PDP.
Mrs. Ciroma, who spoke with journalists while submitting her nomination form, said, “Whether you are a Christian or Muslim, you must realise that power comes from God. In whatever we do, the party must come first,” she added.
She described the party’s defeat in the 2015 presidential election as a blessing in disguise, insisting that the development has enabled Nigerians to experience life under a different political party.
“It was a good thing that PDP lost in that election because now, we are feeling the pinch; Nigerians are feeling the pinch. PDP is the party to beat because it is the party that is in every part of Nigeria. That was why we were in power for 16 years.
“Nigerians have seen the difference and they are saying we have seen the difference. Nigerians are saying let’s go back to the PDP. Ordinary Nigerians are asking PDP to come back,” she stated.
The aspirant further advised the party to come up with a dynamic and robust programmes that will appeal to all Nigerians.
