Candidate promises to empower shop owners

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Ajeromi Federal constituency, Lagos State, Barrister Rita Orji has promised that if elected, she would empower shop owners in Ajeromi Local Government Area with interest -free loans to enable them expand their businesses.

At an interactive forum with shop owners in Ajegunle, the PDP candidate said that multiple taxation, levies and other punitive measures against the traders would be abolished immediately she is elected, while business -friendly policies will be instituted to give them the desired sense of belonging.

Mrs Orji decried the constant harassments, brutalisation and killing of traders by miscreants, even as she vowed not to rest until justice is done in the case involving the murder of one Emeka Ibekwe in January 2013 by suspected hoodlums.

The PDP candidate therefore promised to bring the activities of the union to the notice of the authorities for official recognition as a national trade body. In his address, the chairman of Shop Owners Welfare Forum,(SOWF),Comrade Chidi Onu lamented that members of the organisation are daily facing security challenges brought about by the activities of ‘Area Boys’ who are always attacking their members and shops while forcefully extorting money from them, even as he frowned at the non-challant attitude of the local government authorities to this life threatening menace. He therefore called on the government to immediately create an agency for the welfare of traders in the state.
