Cabal behind Buhari’s second term talk, says Omolegan

The increasing call for President Muhammedu Buhari to seek a second term in office in the 2019 presidential election has been attributed to the handiwork of the powerful cabal in the country who are benefiting from the present administration.
This much was said by Mr. Idowu Omolegan, a Lagos based lawyer and public affairs analysis in a chat with The Daily Times, stressing that though the President has the constitutional right to seek a second term,
those politicians urging him to seek reelection were only after what they would get and benefit from the President if he remains in power, rather than having the interest of the country at heart.
Omolegan urged President Buhari to concentrate on fufiling his campaign promises to Nigerians rather than allowing himself to be distracted by reelection bid mid- way into his tenure, adding that it would have been more honourable for the President to serve a single tenure and leave office.
On the IPOB crisis and the declaration of the group as a terrorist organization, he said that the military’s action was not the solution to the crisis, adding that the administration should be more interested in addressing the reasons for the agitation and issues raised by the group.
Speaking further, the legal luminary disagreed with the declaration of IPOB, as a terrorist group adding that the group has not done anything to deserve such name.
He said “The President has a right to seek reelection, but can he travel round the country to campaign with his health situation? I would have been happier if he serves one term and leave honourably, just like Mandela did.
“You would realise that those calling for the President to seek second term are the cabal benefiting from him. They don’t have the country at heart, but their pockets.
Every Nigerian have a right to agitate, we should be asking what is it that is the basis for their agitations.
“But violence would not solve anything, let them sit down and talk. It is wrong to name IPOB as a terrorist group, am a Yoruba man I don’t think it is right. What of the herdsmen that are carrying arms and killing people? Omolegan asked.
