Bye-election: Lagos APC youths warn leaders against imposition

Some members of the Ifako/Ijaiye Youth Action for Good Governance (IYAGG), the umbrella body of All Progressive Congress (APC) youths at the local council have warned leaders of the party in the state against imposition of candidate for the yet to be fixed bye-election of Ifako/Ijaiye federal constituency at the House of Representatives following the death of the member representing the  Constituency, Hon. Dr.  Elijah Adewale, aka Dr. Jah.

The youths who have resolved to stand against any form of imposition at replacing the late federal lawmaker warned that they would resist the leadership of the party in the event of any imposition of candidate, noting that imposition of candidate will not be in the best interest of the constituents and the constituency in particular, this, they said will be vehemently resisted.

In a statement signed by IYAGG Publicity Secretary, Comrade Niyi Adelaja, the youth group said it decided to come out with its position following the rumour making the rounds that a certain senator from another state is scheming through his State governor to force an unpopular candidate whom they claimed has never won any election on the constituency on the constituency.

The statement states, “We are aware of all the intrigues, scheming and political subterfuges currently going on to impose on us an inconsistent politician that sees politics more or less like a gamble or lucky deep, where you try your luck and if it doesn’t work you disappear from the political scene until there is another chance to try your luck.

“We want to sound a note of warning to all the persons behind this bickering against the good people of Ifako/Ijaiye constituency that this will not work, because we are different from Alimosho people who will allow external influence to prevail when it comes to choosing who represents them.

“Therefore, we advise the governor in question to remain focus on the development of his state and leave the people of Ifako/Ijaiye alone to choose who represent them. We don’t want a representative who will override the interest of the people of the constituency with that of his godfather,  if the imposition is allowed.

“We are therefore, using this opportunity to reach out to the national leader of our great party (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to, in the interest of our people and the party, quickly call the concerned governor to order as the people of Ifako/Ijaiye are ready to do anything to ensure that nobody, no matter how highly placed subverts democratic process and procedure to foist on us an unsung individual with no record of positive impact on the lives of the people of Ifako/ Ijaiye since he has been contesting elections.

“Let it be known to everyone that we are already mobilising ourselves using our demographic advantage and numerical strength to determine  our fate at the proposed bye-election, going by the outcome of the 2015 general elections, any reasonable politician should have learnt that the people cannot be taken for granted any longer,” the group warned.
