Building material merchant pledges to assist host community
An Umuahia building materials merchant, Chief Obioma Okorie, on Monday, pledged to continue with his corporate social responsibility to his Umuahia host community.
Speaking in his New Timber Market office when a youth organisation, Ikwuano/Umuahia Youth Consultative Forum came to deliver an award to him, Chief Okorie, popularly known by his business name, Obioma Enterprises, said one of the things his business does is to appreciate people like his host community, hence the cordial relationship existing between them since over 27 years he has been in business in Umuahia.
He said he has taken the relationship as a challenge and promised to continue to impact on the lives of the people of community, youths, women and children.
He pledged to assist the community on particular and the state in general for through the social corporate social responsibility programmes of his company, especially as it concerns the youths.
Speaking while handing over the award of “Youth Ambassador”, which he said was in recognition of his selfless services to humanity, Chairman of the Planning Committee of Ikwuano/Umuahia Youth Consultative Forum, Vincent Ekpe, said one of the things the forum does is to appreciate people who have done much to impact on the lives of their host community, stating that Chief Okorie was one of them.
He conveyed the gratitude of the people of Ikwuano and Umuahia LGAs to him, stating that the forum has resolved to partner with him and his company.
The forum used the opportunity to call on other business ventures in the area to live up to their corporate social responsibility like Obioma Enterprises so as to curry the favour of the forum and the people of the area.
Contributing, Secretary of the Planning Committee, Ifeanyi Odonkwe, described Chief Okorie as youth-friendly and urged him to continue in like manner, praying God to continue to prosper him as long as he does his business in the area.
